People are debating about whether iPhone’s on-screen keyboard is good enough. Frankly speaking, Apple has done a great job building an intuitive on-screen keyboard that functions amazingly great. Still, some people just ‘need’ to feel their keys while typing and just can’t settle for iPhone’s on-screen keyboard after all.

There are several enthusiasts who tried building keyboards for iPhone. A Japanese guy successfully use a concept keyboard originally designed for Compaq iPaq and turns it into iPhone mini keyboard. The solution may not be suitable for all users because it requires a more advanced tweaking and modifying. Later on, a company tried to design Bluetooth keyboard for iPhone. The product release date is still unclear because iPhone has no native Bluetooth receiving capabilities that would allow the keyboard to work.

An actual solution, the one that really works and available on the market, is iTwinge. ITwinge is introduced as more of a ‘typing skin’ than a keyboard. It does look like regular silicone skin widely available, but it has a set of mini QWERTY keyboard on the front side. People at Mobile Mechatronics are clever enough to actually use iPhone’s on-screen keyboard and design their typing skin to match the on-screen keyboard. When you are typing using iTwinge, you are actually typing on your on-screen keyboard with the help of iTwinge’s skin layer.

The question remains: does iPhone really need an external keyboard? The answer to this question may vary depending on your needs and wants, but we have to admit that a functional mini keyboard — more or less similar to the one used in Nokia’s Communicator series or BlackBerry’s handsets — would be a great addition to this already amazing handset.

If you are traveling with your iPhone, packing more juice — preparing more power sources for your handset — is definitely a must. IPhone just don’t have that much battery power; even after you optimize all settings, expecting the device to stay on for more than a day is slightly wishful thinking. What you need is more juice for your handset, and there are several ways you can provide it.

The first and possibly the cheapest solution is to get car charger for your iPhone, especially when you are traveling by car. You will be able to plug the charger to standard cigarette lighter and charge your iPhone on the run. You can also get one of those solar chargers for your iPhone. There are two types of solar chargers available for iPhone, one with built-in battery and the other is for direct charging only. The solar charger can help you keep your iPhone powered in more ways than one. With built-in battery, you can use the solar panel to charge the internal battery and use it later when you need to charge your iPhone; you can still charge your iPhone directly, whether your solar charger has internal battery or not, by placing the charger under the sun and plug it to your iPhone.

One last solution is to keep battery packs with you at all times. You can store power by charging your battery pack, and then use the device to charge your iPhone even when you have no power source accessible. No more running out of batteries when traveling with your iPhone.

One of iPhone users’ biggest complaints is its battery life. Even under normal use, running out of batteries after about half a day is often experienced by users. With the latest 3GS models, equipped with better 3G connectivity, brighter screen, and built-in GPS, this particular problem may be worse indeed. You may also get too excited about new apps and features of iPhone 3GS that you unintentionally drain its battery faster.

There are several simple steps you can take to improve your iPhone’s battery life. The first is of course tuning down the screen’s brightness. IPhone’s screen is good enough even at 10% brightness, so don’t fire it up at 100%. Turning the Auto-Brightness feature may also help you save battery life. Toggle Wi-Fi and 3G off when you are not using them. These features drain batteries fast, and turning them off when you are not using them can prolong your iPhone’s battery life substantially. Setting the Auto-Lock to 1-minute, or slightly longer if you need it, can also save battery life; iPhone shuts down screen and some other hardware when it is locked, and it will surely extend battery life.

If you don’t need it, turn Push features off and switch to Fetch instead. Push uses too much power while Fetch is more power-saving. You can also try to use apps with intense 3D graphics less often; 3D graphic processing requires a lot of power naturally. Last but not least, you can turn of vibrates especially when playing games or running apps. Your iPhone will last noticeably longer once you followed these simple tips.

One of the advertised features of iPhone is its capabilities to learn new words and adapt to your writing style. Not all people can write as fast using iPhone’s on-screen keyboard, and having adaptive capabilities to learn new words will surely help most users to type faster. However, you need to know how you can make your iPhone learn new words correctly and correctly in order for the feature to be useful.

One of the best ways to make your iPhone learn new words is to browse a lot. Use iPhone’s built-in safari browser and type words on its search bar. IPhone will learn new words from the search bar faster than from any other applications available. You may not even have to type the word for several times because iPhone will most likely add it to its dictionary in an instant.

Other applications are also good to make iPhone learn new words, but there are some apps where iPhone just don’t seem to pay attention to. If you write notes using the notepad, iPhone will never learn new words as you type no matter how often you use the word. The reason of why the feature doesn’t scan notepad and a lot of users are hoping for a fix anytime soon.

By knowing how you can make your iPhone learn new words, the process of making it learns words as you type will be better and faster. Before you know it, you will have sets of words often used added to the dictionary; your typing speed will improve substantially.
